Alta-Tollhaus Extended Family

Last Update: 027 January, 2012

Roman"Hi Julie. Just thought I'd share with you how crazy smart Roman is at only 10 months. He knows what it means when I tell him "You help me." When I say that to him he helps me carry the laundry basket up and down the stairs. He'll hold one handle in his mouth and I hold the other. He'll also carry Chris's shoes upstairs, help me take the garbage out, carry a hammer. Since he's always within 2 inches of me, I figured I should put him to work. It's sooo funny. Pretty much anything I want him to carry for me, he will. When I talk to him he stares at me so intensely...I know he's really thinking about what I'm saying. Crazy!! He's just the best :) and a real smarty pants!"

Nikon"Nikon (aka Noodle) is smart, energetic, confident, powerful, loves to train and work, and succeeds at everything we try. He has a lot of energy and continuously challenges me to keep up with him, but this is exactly what I wanted! At one year old he passed his Canine Good Citizen test and herding instinct test, competed in his first national Sieger Show, earned over half his UKC points and wins, and was well into training for Schutzhund, agility, and dock diving. Nikon is now titled in SDA tracking, obedience, protection, Schutzhund, CPE agility, UKC dock diving and lure coursing. He is being trained for higher level SDA and Schutzhund titles as well as picking up flyball and continuing with dock diving and agility.

Nikon is the total package; he is a pet and companion as much as he is my performance dog. He sleeps on my bed, travels with me and my family, visits my office, frequents the local pet stores, and loves to play fetch. He is naturally protective of me but is also neutral toward non-threatening strangers and other dogs. When we have people over he can be out mingling or resting calmly in his crate. He was recently used as the "neutral dog" to help other dogs prepare for their Canine Good Citizen test. I've taught him several fun tricks and he does obedience and trick demonstrations at a local elementary school as well as walking in parades with kids to promote their school. Nikon's also a traffic stopper! People have circled back in their cars to watch him train in my yard. At the last UKC Premier he ended up with a fan club of people following us to all of our events.

I am very proud of my dog and his accomplishments."

Gavin"I took Gavin, my 8 month old Shepherd with me to my niece's Softball game. I felt it would be a great socialization outing. There were so many kids and dogs everywhere and Gavin was great, being shown from a young age he's pretty used to crowds, but this was new to him as far as children, balls etc.. I sat in the front of the bleachers by the dugout and as the kids came out they would come over and hug and play with Gavin, he loved it. The thing I found really neat though was we sat with a lot of different breeds, a Lab, a Boxer and a Cavalier Spaniel , plus a couple of Pitts and a Rottie, yet not one person approached those other dogs, they just came over to admire and pet Gavin, everyone complimented on how beautiful he was and spoke of Shepherds they had owned or known, and I'm talking old people as well as younger adults, even the Umpire came over between innings and completely ignored the other dogs but came and hugged and patted Gavin telling me what a great looking dog he was. I did not hear ONE negative word about German Shepherds in the 6 hours we were there, Gavin laying by my side in complete control with lots of little children coming up and petting him as he licked their little faces made me so proud. I only saw how much people love and admire German Shepherds, I was even embarassed that the other dogs were completely ignored, my sister even commented that Gavin was a babe magnet due to all the guys coming over to see and pet him!" -Lorie A. Gavin"When it was time to add a German Shepherd to our family, I wanted the same focus and drive that Cadence has, as I love training and competing in agility, schutzhund, and flyball. I am a very active person who loves to train and I love working with dogs that have a strong work ethic and one that always want more. I needed a dog that likes "action". Cadence has always been very focused and driven to work with me. Schutzhund training came very natural to her because of her 'want to' attitude - whatever I want to do, she wants to as well. She is the most stylish/natural heeling partner I have worked, having natural attention and focus.

Julie does an outstanding job of raising her Alta-Tollhaus German Shepherd puppies in preparation for any future, whether it is performance dog, well-adjusted pet or both; so when the announcement was made that Cadence was going to be bred to Rocco, I kept thinking about that breeding, but it was certainly not the intention at all the keep another puppy at this time, as I just recently bred a Border Collie litter. So I just trusted my instincts and decided not to be put on the puppy list, however this little dynamo had very different plans in store for himself! So he did his best and obviously won out to earn a very special place in my heart.

Verdae is everything I was looking for in my long awaited puppy from Funny's line. What can I say about Verdae? He's everything I could have hoped for from this breeding! The whole litter was great, but as it goes sometimes, Verdae really chose me. I see flashes of his grandmother Funny when I work him with amazing focus and his desire to please. He is a very happy-go-lucky dog who adapts to anything life throws at him. He is very confident and wastes no time in getting the job done, as fast as he can! I am not shy about boasting my awe for this remarkable German Shepherd to everyone we meet. I wholeheartedly love every single thing about him: from the long, beautiful coat, to how floppy and warm he is when cuddling at night, to his addictive enthusiasm, wanting to race around the yard as fast as he can possibly go!

Verdae is extremely biddable and eager to learn. He has his dad's incredible "bomb proof" temperament and takes everything in stride. I couldn't ask for anything more from this boy, he's a true improvement upon both of his parents, yet reminds me so much of them both at the same time. Verdae is one of the most naturally gifted dogs with amazing ground speed, athleticism, and dripping with drive. But yet, he is very sweet and biddable and wants to do it right. I am so blessed to have him in my life as he makes me smile every day and he is one of the easiest dogs to live with. When nothing is going on, he relaxes, but when I am ready to go, he is MORE than ready. He is calm and quiet and unassuming but I know that if I were ever to be threatened in his presence he would be the first to step up and protect.

NikonOften described as a "perfect gentleman", Verdae has a friendly, outgoing personality. Verdae gets along great with all dogs, people and other animals, except he does try to herd the cats (thanks grandma Funny!). I have honestly not met very many dogs with a disposition as stable as his at such a young age. He is a very easy dog to live with, but has just the right amount of drive that is going to make him a very successful sport dog.

Julie, words really can't cover the depth of my gratitude for letting Verdae be such an incredible partner for me. Verdae is a gift beyond all words and is definitely treasured by everyone he meets. Verdae doesn't have to achieve titles, blue ribbons or any such accolades as he had already won my heart the moment I held him. As I look forward to our lives together, anticipating the joys of seeing his skills on the schutzhund field and his athleticism in agility, I realize that he was to teach me instead. He was the master conductor and I his student. And thank you Verdae for teaching me so many things as we only recently started on our journey together.

Julie, I am eternally grateful to you as a breeder and most of all a friend."

Gavin"Ivan is owned, trained, handled, and loved by Jack & Lynda. He is from the "I" litter born December 22, 2009.

When we began looking for a German Shepherd Dog we knew we wanted a puppy with proper conformation and temperament, and the health, desire and brains to do performance events. Our search lead us to Julie Richards-Mostosky and Alta-Tollhaus German Shepherd Dogs. Julie has beautiful German Shepherd Dogs and she competes with her dogs in many performance venues.

Our dogs are an important part of our family. Ivan shares his home with a Labrador Retriever, Dylan (Bahamian CH. ShadowGlen's Midnight Dylan UD, RE, MX, AXJ, XF, AXP, AJP, XFP, CC, TDI, CGC, Bahamian CD, Bahamian RA) and two cats. They compete in obedience and agility but also enjoy going to the beach or the woods or around town. Whenever we are at any type of competition we always make
time to find a State Park or other suitable place where they can walk, run and explore.

Ivan started Puppy Kindergarten when he was old enough and has been in some type of obedience or
